Patient Entitlement

There are some NHS health services where you are expected to contribute towards the cost of your treatment if you are financially capable of doing so.

Patient contributions are as follows:

  • Dental - NHS dental examinations are free to all patients resident in Scotland and other UK residents visiting Scotland, but overseas visitors are subject to the National Health Service (Charges to Overseas Visitors) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 2006.
    Patients will be expected to contribute 80% of all other treatment costs up to a maximum of £384
  • Optical - NHS eye examinations are free to all patients resident in Scotland and other UK residents visiting Scotland, but overseas visitors are subject to the National Health Service (Charges to Overseas Visitors) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 2006
    Help with the cost of glasses or contact lenses may be available depending on the patient’s circumstances
